GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Mike Daniels was elated last year when he was told he nearly tripled his salary for 2015 thanks to a little-known -- and completely unknown to him -- provision called the “proven performance escalator.”
That bumped the Green Bay Packers defensive end’s base pay from $660,000 to more than $1.5 million for the final season of his rookie contract.
So you would’ve thought Daniels’ excitement level would have been off the charts on Monday after he signed a four-year, $42 million extension that included a $12 million signing bonus.
