Mike C. McCoy's big play was a life saver

Mike C. McCoy had a solid eight-year career in the National Football League from 1976-'83, but no Green Bay Packers jersey, footballs, or photographs adorn his one-bedroom apartment.

Most of McCoy's memorabilia and newspaper articles are packed away in a trunk. The only award displayed in his Thorton, Colo., residence sits on his coffee table and has nothing to do with football.

"It's the thing in my life I'm most proud of," McCoy, 62, said.

McCoy saved a drowning man's life in the summer of 1980, just weeks before the Green Bay cornerback was to report to Packers training camp.
