GREEN BAY – A year ago, the task Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur faces entering this bye week was noticeably easier.
It might have been the only silver lining of the Packers starting 2023 with a 3-6 record, digging themselves a hole so deep, it seemed unlikely they’d ever climb out. As the losses mounted, they had no choice but to confront their issues. There is no stronger evidence to support an urgency for improvement like failing to win.
The Packers have not had that same failure this season. Instead of 3-6, they are 6-3 through nine games – though, significantly, still third place in the NFC North as they were at this point a year ago.
