Matt Blanchard among five players cut by Packers

Green Bay — Talent determines much of what happens in the National Football League, but timing plays a part, too.

Matt Blanchard, the quarterback who led UW-Whitewater to NCAA Division III national championships in 2010 and '11, came along at the wrong time for the Green Bay Packers.

One of five players released Tuesday as the Packers reached the 75-man limit, Blanchard never really had a chance after the team selected Brett Hundley in the fifth round of the draft.

"He was in an uphill battle once we actually drafted Brett," quarterbacks coach Alex Van Pelt said.
