Loss of Za’Darius Smith Leaves the Packers Thin at Edge Rusher

The Green Bay Packers placed outside linebacker Za’Darius Smith on the injured reserve on Friday due to the back injury that caused him to miss a large chunk of training camp and limited him to 18 snaps in the Packers season opener against the Saints.

The Packers still have two quality starting-caliber edge rushers on their roster in former first-round pick Rashan Gary and Preston Smith who had 12 sacks in 2019 for the Packers. But behind the starting duo, the Packers are now very thin at the edge rushing position.

The next two players on the depth chart behind Preston Smith and Gary are Jonathan Garvin and Chauncey Rivers.
