Jordan Love signs 4-year extension with Packers, ending holdout

After missing four training camp practices with a holdout, Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love and the team have reached a four-year extension, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The deal will pay him $220 million in new money, which brings his average per year to $55 million. That figure ties him with Cincinnati’s Joe Burrow and Jacksonville’s Trevor Lawrence as the highest-paid quarterbacks, or players in general, in NFL history.

As we’ve learned over the years, though, the true judgment of a contract is in the details, not the big number that is reported. Earlier today, following the announcement of Miami quarterback Tua Tagovailoa signing a four-year, $212 million extension, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported that the hurdles the two sides in this negotiation were clearing all revolved around contract structure — meaning guaranteed money.
