What was essentially considered a forgone conclusion this summer by many was that the Green Bay Packers were going to cut Preston Smith. His production compared to 2019 fell off a cliff — we will get to that shortly — and the cap-conscious Packers who desperately needed to create cap space could have saved $8 million by moving on from him.
But as we all know, that isn’t how things played out. Instead, Smith took a pay cut which still helped create that needed cap space, and he will be around for the 2021 season. Despite his rocky 2020 season, this was good news.
