In many cases, the college coaches don’t have enough time with the quarterbacks to do much more than plug them in and teach them to run the offense. Once upon a time, freshmen were ineligible to play varsity college football. They played an abbreviated freshmen-team schedule, and the year was largely dedicated to learning and transitioning to college football.
