The Green Bay Packers have a series of difficult decisions to make to define their initial 53-man roster. One of them regards who the third running back will be, behind Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon, and if one or two of the backups will make the active roster. The average of RBs on the 53 since Brian Gutekunst became the general manager in 2018 is three, but there are exceptions. In 2020, the team kept four — but Tyler Ervin was mainly a special teamer and gadget offensive piece.
Twice, the Packers decided to keep just two. In 2018, Aaron Jones was suspended for the first two games, so they had just Jamaal Williams and Ty Montgomery.
