August “Iron Mike” Michalske, a Green Bay Packers star in the early 1930s, was born April 24, 1903, in Cleveland, Ohio.
In high school and at Penn State, where he earned All-America honors in 1925, he played fullback, guard, end, and tackle.

The 6-foot, 210-pound Michalske began his pro football career with the New York Yankees of the new American Football League in 1926 but that league shut down after only one year. He was originally signed to block for standout running back Red Grange.
