Henry George “Hank” Bruder was born on Nov. 22, 1907 in Pekin, Ill.
More From History
Bruder starred at both Pekin High and Northwestern University. While at Northwestern, he was known as “Hard Luck Hank” because a series of unfortunate injuries and accidents nagged him throughout. He missed half of one year with a broken leg and half of the next with smallpox.
He was a captain on the 1930 Northwestern team that was undefeated before losing to Notre Dame in the season finale.
In a Martin Hendricks, Aug. 30, 2012, Special to Packer Plus on Hank Bruder, he labeled Bruder as a solid player on the 1930s teams.
