After another very quiet start to free agency, Packers fans have been looking to the draft for the team to fill what they perceive as the team’s biggest needs. Defensively, one position has been consistently identified as the place where improvement is vital: inside linebacker.
It’s easy to see why. In today’s pass-happy NFL, the Packers lack that all too important trait: speed. And they lack it in the middle of the field. Jake Ryan was exposed at times in coverage last season, and presumptive 2016 starter Sam Barrington is another player better off defending the run than the pass.
