Green Bay Packers: Datone Jones could come back on a “prove it” deal

Looking at the stat sheets alone, it appears Jones hasn’t lived up to his first-round status. But although he isn’t a game-changer, he’s been an important piece to Dom Capers’ defense, doing a lot of the dirty work that goes unnoticed yet is so important.

Packers general manager Ted Thompson will want to get Jones back under contract, but will likely be unwilling to break the bank. A one-year, “prove it” style contract like the one Perry was handed last offseason could be in the immediate future for Jones.

It’s likely Jones will be allowed to test the market when free agency begins on March 9, but if he doesn’t receive a strong offer elsewhere, can return to Green Bay on a team-friendly deal.
