First it was the World League of American Football in 1991 before morphing into the NFL Europe in 1998 and then NFL Europa in 2006. Finally in 2007, commissioner Roger Goodell decided to pull the plug after the league was losing an estimated $30 million a season.
Since that time, the NFL has played regular season games in London. The NFL has treated the games like big-time events by booking pregame acts like the Goo Goo Dolls, Def Leppard and others. This upcoming season, the NFL will make a return to Mexico for Monday Night Football.
And now the NFL could play in Germany in 2017 and China in 2018.
