The Green Bay Packers appear poised to invest in free agents more in 2018 than in years past, due in large part to Brian Gutekunst replacing Ted Thompson as general manager. However, one thing that has not changed is that the price must be right — Russ Ball will see to that.

With the defense in need of some attention from the personnel department, it’s tempting to look at some of the top free agents on that side of the football to see who might be a good fit for Mike Pettine’s unit. Malcolm Butler of the Patriots is a name that has come up quite a bit of late, but there are some other interesting names in the top group.
