It was a day that Jamaal Williams was presumably waiting for all season long, and it has to make the Green Bay Packers feel good about their stable of young running backs.
On Sunday afternoon, Williams, who had been passed by fellow rookie Aaron Jones on the depth chart, got his chance to take the lead back role in the Packers’ offense. That opportunity came after Jones and backup Ty Montgomery both left the game with injuries in the first half, and Williams cashed in. He recorded 67 rushing yards on 20 carries; that’s not a magnificent performance on the stat sheet, but it was how he ran and the tough yardage that he picked up that will be the points of focus this week.
