Cheese Curds, 10/4: Packers get play action cooking, Trevathan’s suspension reduced to 1 game

One of the best weapons in the Green Bay Packers’ offensive arsenal is, and always has been, play action. Aaron Rodgers sells the fake handoff as well as or better than any quarterback in the NFL, and it is a favorite tactic of head coach Mike McCarthy’s, especially after a turnover.

Last Thursday against the Chicago Bears, the team used play-action on its two longest offensive plays of the day, a 58-yard bomb to Jordy Nelson and a 26-yard gain by Martellus Bennett. Those players were aided in large part by the team actually having some success in the running game, as Aaron Jones had a nice debut as a runner for Green Bay.
