Taking a quarterback in the NFL is a paradox. It’s the most valuable position, but also the hardest to evaluate. They bust at the highest rate of any position, but not taking one early tends to lead to worse outcomes. Pro Football Focus found a starting caliber quarterback comes from a top-3 pick 56.4% of the time, a number that falls to 36.3% for the second round based on historical draft data. Recent history shows the bust rate outside of the top-10 to be monstrously high, a warning sign for Jordan Love with the Green Bay Packers.
