For the better part of the past two decades, the Green Bay Packers’ starting offensive line has been a sure thing, at least during offseason workouts. Rarely has the team drafted a player on the line with the immediate intent being for him to start in week one.
In fact, this has arguably never happened under Ted Thompson’s leadership. Even the team’s two first-round offensive linemen during Thompson’s tenure — Bryan Bulaga and Derek Sherrod — were backups to start their rookie years. In fact, the only two draft picks who started as rookies did so as a result of injuries.
