NEW FRANKEN, Wis. (WFRV) – 75 years ago, in 1950, a devastating fire destroyed the Rockwood Lodge, the Green Bay Packers’ first self-contained training facility, located about 17 miles northeast of Green Bay.

While the fire itself was tragic, it also set in motion a series of events that would reshape the future of the Packers and the city of Green Bay.

The Rockwood Lodge had been a symbol of progress for the Packers when it was acquired in 1946. The facility, nestled in the peaceful Wisconsin countryside, was the first of its kind in professional football—an all-inclusive, self-sufficient training camp.
