49ers to decline fifth-year option on defensive lineman Solomon Thomas

Error 0:

The 49ers won’t pick up the fifth-year option on defensive lineman Solomon Thomas’ contract, the NFL Network reported.

The decision, which had to be made by Monday’s deadline, wasn’t a surprise given the price tag and Thomas’ performance in his first three seasons after he was the No. 3 pick in 2017.

Thomas had 21 tackles and two sacks in 2019. He has 93 tackles and six sacks in 46 career games. The 49ers would have agreed to pay Thomas $12.3 million in 2021 had they picked up the option.
