On Tuesday, the NFL’s franchise and transition tagging window opened up, allowing teams to use one tag to protect an impending free agent. Teams have until the official start of free agency (4:00 PM Eastern on Wednesday, March 13th) to make those decisions, but over the next few weeks we will likely learn about many players being tagged.
For example, ESPN’s Adam Schefter started off the tag frenzy with a list of ten players who his sources suggested could be tagged before the deadline:
Starting today and until March 5, there could be at least 10 players receiving some form of a tag: DeMarcus Lawrence, Jadeveon Clowney, Dee Ford, Frank Clark, Gardy Jarrett, Landon Collins, Nick Foles, Le’Veon Bell, Donovan Smith, Robbie Gould and Stephen Gostkowski, per sources.
