Julius Poppinga, the 17-year-old son of former Green Bay Packers player Brady Poppinga, died Wednesday after a severe asthma attack.
Poppinga, a senior at Westlake High School in Thousand Oaks, Calif., was hospitalized following an asthma attack last week, according to the Ventura County Star. While receiving treatment, he suffered a collapsed lung and did not recover.
Poppinga was a lineman on the high school’s football team.
Westlake is scheduled to host Thousand Oaks on Friday night, but it is unclear if the game will be played.
“Words can not even begin to describe the immense amount of love, kindness, compassion, humor, athleticism, knowledge, trustworthiness, consideration for others, sincerity, loyalty, and friendly characteristics Julius holds,” his sister Jasmine Poppinga posted on Instagram, along with several photos.
