A year ago, an article of this nature would have been considered pure fantasy. On the offensive side of the ball, the only true free agent signing of any significance during Ted Thompson’s 13-year run as GM was Martellus Bennett – and that was a mere 10 months ago. The Packers have since released Bennett and demoted Thompson, the latter of which signaled a change in the team’s philosophy.
Newly anointed general manager Brian Gutekunst has been very open about his intent to be more aggressive in free agency. The Packers are currently sitting on approximately $25 million in cap space, assuming the salary cap indeed rises to $187 million.
