The Green Bay Packers lost one of their best players to a catastrophic injury during the opening drive of the team's preseason game versus the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.
#1 wide receiver Jordy Nelson's knee injury has been initially diagnosed as a torn ACL, per NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport who cited a source close to the situation.
The team is currently awaiting MRI results to publicly confirm, Rapoport adds.
A top-level route runner who combines both home-run over-the-top skills and gritty possession receiver attributes, Nelson has become one of QB Aaron Rodgers' most-trusted aerial weapons.
Combined with Randall Cobb, the duo was the most prolific receiving tandem in the league last year. Nelson finished with 98 catches for 1,519 yards and 13 touchdowns last season, with the catches and yardage standing as career highs.
