Update: Check out the latest Packers rumors for March 7th here.
Original Story Below:
NFL Free Agency starts on March 9th, and the next few days will feature several Green Bay Packers rumors. Although the team hasn't done much in free agency in the past, the team has some cap space and that could change this year. With that in mind, here are a few of the more interesting rumors and news tidbits on the Packers.
Matt Forte And Green Bay?
Could Green Bay be a landing spot for former Chicago Bear Matt Forte? He won't be returning to the Bears next season and he'll want to chase a Super Bowl title rather than chasing the money. Forte has been linked the Packers by the Chicago Tribune and ESPN.
It makes sense, as James Starks is a free agent and the team could use a compliment to Eddie Lacy. Forte would also provide insurance in the event that Lacy doesn't lose the weight he needs to and/or struggles again. Forte would need to come cheap, but he might be willing to do so in order to chase that Super Bowl.
James Jones Wants To Return
The Packers brought back WR James Jones when Jordy Nelson was injured before the start of the season. With Davante Adams' struggles and drop issues and Randall Cobb having a down year, Jones was the team's top WR. Jones said he wants to return to Green Bay, but that it seems like he'll hit the open market. QB Aaron Rodgers wants Jones to return, but it remains to be seen if the 31-year-old WR will be back with the Packers next season.
Free Agent TE Targets?
Richard Rodgers caught a several TD passes last season, but it's not clear if he's the answer as the Packers' full-time TE. It's a down year for draft prospects at the TE spot, but there are several free agent options. ESPN reports that players like Ladarius Green, Dwayne Allen, Coby Fleener Jared Coo and Martellus Bennett (if he's cut) could all be options. Any of those players should be fairly cheap and they'd form a solid one-two combo with Rodgers.
