The Green Bay Packers are diving headfirst into the offseason, and the team's first priority is re-signing its own players. They have several key contributors they need to bring back next season - but also those they need they need to get rid of. They have already started this process, releasing Sam Shields and James Starks. So, here are three other notable players the Packers may cut this offseason:
DE Letroy Guion
Guion has been a very good player for the Packers, but Green Bay has younger players at the position that deserve playing time. That, and the fact they can save over $3.6 million by releasing him makes him a likely candidate to be a cap casualty.
WR Jeff Janis
The Packers need to save money somewhere, and while cutting Janis would save the team just over $700K, it does create some room given that he continues to be buried on Green Bay's depth chart. The Packers could use that money on another position of more need.
DL Mike Daniels
If Green Bay wants to open up a significant amount of cap space, they're going to have to release either Daniels or Matthews. Even though Matthews is declining, it's hard to imagine them cutting one of the faces of the franchise. That leaves Daniels, who is Green Bay's highest-paid defensive lineman at $10.4 million. He had his worst season in three years this year, and in a draft class heavy with talented defensive linemen, they could use their first round pick to draft a viable replacement for cheap.
