The Green Bay Packers caught fire during the second half of the season, but that dream run fell just short of reaching the Super Bowl. But expectations haven't changed in Titletown this year - with Aaron Rodgers still under center, the Packers want to hoist the Lombardi Trophy. Can they do it? Here's a game-by-game prediction of Green Bay's schedule this year:
Week 1: vs. Seattle Seahawks
Prediction: WIN (1-0)
These two teams have engaged in several tough contests over the past few years, and this will be another great game - especially in the season opener. Seattle's struggles on the road last year should give the Packers an advantage in this one.
Week 2: at Atlanta Falcons
Prediction: LOSS (1-1)
Atlanta ended Green Bay's spectacular run over the second half of the season by beating them in the NFC Championship Game, and you know the Packers would love nothing more than to get some measure of revenge.
Week 3: vs. Cincinnati Bengals
Prediction: WIN (2-1)
The Bengals have plenty of talent, but they aren't the most disciplined squad and struggle along both the offensive and defensive fronts. I would expect Green Bay to win by at least 10 points.
Week 4: vs. Chicago Bears
Prediction: WIN (3-1)
Chicago is one of the least talented teams in the entire league. This one won't be close.
Week 5: at Dallas Cowboys
Prediction: LOSS (3-2)
This rematch of last year's divisional round playoff game has all the makings of one of the best games of the year. Their playoff game was an instant classic, and both teams only got stronger this offseason. Expect this game to come down the final possession with the Cowboys figuring out a way to win.
Week 6: at Minnesota Vikings
Prediction: LOSS (3-3)
For all of Minnesota's offensive struggles, their defense is perhaps the best in the entire league. That defense will be able to dictate the game at U.S. Bank Stadium and give the Vikings a low-scoring win.
Week 7: vs. New Orleans Saints
Prediction: WIN (4-3)
At this point, we know the deal with the Saints. Their offense is very, very good, but their defense is bad and they don't play nearly as well on the road as they do at home.
Week 8: BYE
Week 9: vs. Detroit Lions
Prediction: WIN (5-3)
With two weeks to prepare, Green Bay will have an answer for Matthew Stafford and Detroit's offense. Plus, the Packers have owned Detroit, going 9-3 against them in their last 12 meetings.
Week 10: at Chicago Bears
Prediction: WIN (6-3)
See above - the Bears don't have the offense to keep up with the Packers or the defense to stop them.
Week 11: vs. Baltimore Ravens
Prediction: WIN (7-3)
Baltimore has a team full of good players, but there isn't thing that they do exceptionally well. Joe Flacco & Co. will push the Packers, but they aren't good enough to beat them on the road.
Week 12: at Pittsburgh Steelers
Prediction: LOSS (7-4)
Both the Packers and Steelers were one win away from going to the Super Bowl, but now they'll square off in one of the most intriguing Sunday night games of the season. This game certainly has plenty of star power.
Week 13: vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Prediction: WIN (8-4)
Tampa Bay is expected to be one of the league's breakout teams this year, but because they're still a young team, road games will be hit or miss. They won't play their best in an atmosphere like Lambeau.
Week 14: at Cleveland Browns
Prediction: WIN (9-4)
LOL. The Browns are still the Browns.
Week 15: at Carolina Panthers
Prediction: LOSS (9-5)
Aaron Rodgers will expose any and all weaknesses in Carolina's young, unproven secondary, but Cam Newton and the Panthers' offense are very capable of keeping up with Green Bay on the scoreboard. This late-season game could have major implications on playoff seeding, and ultimately, I think the home team wins.
Week 16: vs. Minnesota Vikings
Prediction: WIN (10-5)
This is the game where Minnesota's lack of offensive firepower will catch up to them. These two teams usually split the season series and this year will be no different.
Week 17: at Detroit Lions
Prediction: WIN (11-5)
In a Week 17 matchup in which playoff positioning may be on the line for the Packers, they'll be playing their best and will secure a playoff spot - whether it's via the division title or a wild card.
