The Green Bay Packers were only a few minutes away from reaching the Super Bowl this past season, and will be looking to upgrade their roster in free agency to ensure they get over that hump and get to the Super Bowl in 2016. Here are the top free agents they're targeting to make that happen:
LB/DL Pernell McPhee
McPhee is excellent rushing the passer – shown by his 7.5 sacks in 2014 – and would give the Packers another weapon up the middle. At. 6’3″ and 280 pounds, he has versatility Green Bay loves and would draw double teams, creating opportunities for other guys to make plays. The downside is that he won’t come cheap, but he’d provide the Packers with the pass-rusher they need.
CB Cary Williams
Williams isn’t an elite corner on the free agency market, but he’s in the second tier and would fill a desperate need for the Packers in their inconsistent secondary. He has Super Bowl experience from his time with the Ravens, and his physicality would be welcomed.
RB C.J. Spiller
Green Bay already has Eddie Lacy, but adding Spiller would provide the Packers with a lethal thunder-and-lightning combination. Plus, he'd be a huge upgrade in the return game. Spiller has had injury problems in Buffalo, but the Packers’ offensive system fits his strengths better and should keep him more healthy. His game-breaking speed and receiving skills will make him worth the gamble if they can sign him to a team-friendly deal.
