Packers News: Packers host Pitt QB Tom Savage, draft option?

In Packers news today, the Green Bay Packers are one of several teams to play host to former Pittsburgh quarterback Tom Savage, and could be in the mix to draft the celebrated prospect come May's NFL Draft.

Per Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee-Wisconsin Journal Sentinel, "according to an NFL source, the Packers were one of the many teams that Savage has visited in the past couple of weeks. He has reportedly shot up draft boards as teams start to find out more and more about him."

As Silverstein points out in his article posted on Monday, "there's always a danger in reading too much into pre-draft visits, but when a team like the Green Bay Packers hosts an up-and-coming quarterback prospect like Pittsburgh's Tom Savage, it makes for some interesting discussion."

The Green Bay Packers are understandably content with Aaron Rodgers as their starting quarterback for the foreseeable future, adding Savage to the backup mix along with Matt Flynn and Scott Tolzien could give the Packers a wealth of options at the position in case of emergency.

The one drawback? Savage is now being projected as high as the second round, so it would most likely require a solid commitment on the Packers' part to bring him into the fold.
