Green Bay Packers starting quarterback Sam Shields still has time to clear the NFL's concussion protocols in time to play against the Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night Football.
"The medical staff has told me he still has a chance to play," head coach Mike McCarthy said Saturday, via Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com. "He'll be given the opportunity to play in the game if everything goes right."
The Packers didn't practice on Saturday, and Shields was still a no-go for Sunday morning's practice. However, McCarthy remains adamant that Shields will go if he's able to.
"Sam Shields is a starter, so I'm going to give him every opportunity to play," McCarthy said.
Shields was injured during the first half of last Sunday's home victory over the New England Patriots. Davon House replaced him for the remainder of the game, and will start alongside Tramon Williams if Shields isn't cleared.
