The Green Bay Packers needed just two yards to clinch a victory over the feisty Minnesota Vikings at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis on Sunday.
With just 2:31 left on the clock and holding on to a 24-21 lead, Packers head coach Mike McCarthy had the opportunity to discuss two potential plays with quarterback Aaron Rodgers - one a run, and the other a pass.
No one in attendance or watching the game would have been surprised if McCarthy attempted to ride Rodgers' to a game-clinching first down. However, Rodgers told the Packers head coach that he wanted to go with the hot hand in running back Eddie Lacy.
"That was a play that he preferred," McCarthy said of his quarterback. "I just kind of chuckled because it's usually the other way around. It was the right call in that situation."
Out of a shotgun formation on 3rd and 2, Lacy used his power to clear four yards off of left tackle and win the game for the Packers.
Credit both Lacy and Rodgers' awareness for finishing the game off right then and there.
