The 2015 NFL Draft is just a few days away, and there’s plenty of reason to be excited about the festivities in Chicago if you’re a Green Bay Packers fan. Here’s our breakdown of everything Packers fans need to know heading into draft week.
Will the Packers trade out of the first round?
According to Bleacher Report’s Michelle Bruton, Green Bay trading down and out of the first round with a team like the New York Jets — landing the Packers an extra pick while keeping them in line to land a potentially fit such as Clemson LB Stephone Anthony:
“It’s a smart move for the Packers, who could be targeting Clemson inside linebacker Stephone Anthony as their first selection. No. 30 is a little high to take him, but No. 37 would be a great value in the second round, plus they’d get a fourth-round selection to boot.”
While landing a fourth-rounder in such a swap may be a bit of the stretch, the Packers could at least land a late-rounder by moving down a mere seven spots.
Green Bay targeting potential sleeper QB
The Green Bay Packers may look to the 2015 NFL Draft to find a young, future contingency plan at quarterback, and one of the names that they may be considering is potential sleeper prospect Trevor Siemian of Northwestern.
Here’s Rob Rang of CBS Sports with the report:
The 6-foot-3, 220 pound Siemian is still recovering from the torn ACL which abruptly ended his redshirt senior season after starting the first 11 games but he threw 44 scripted passes Thursday in a workout attended by scouts and coaches representing the Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers, Oakland Raiders and Tennessee Titans.
Siemian has a reputation for being a gun-slinger, and his pure athleticism allows him to get away with some throws that other less physically-gifted quarterbacks can’t pull off. His knee may be a sticking point, but his raw talent could be just what the Packers are looking for in a late-round flyer.
