The Green Bay Packers still haven't found a long-term solution at running back, but they're now facing fears that one of the possible answers could be forced to hang up his cleats.
Jonathan Franklin, a 24-year-old UCLA product, ended last season on the injured reserve list after a neck injury prematurely ended his campaign. That neck injury has Packers coaches very worried, and ESPN's Rob Demovsky reports that Franklin's injury could prevent him from safely playing football again.
Franklin will undergo more testing before a decision is made, but there is real concern over his NFL future. Franklin broke out in Week 3 against the Cincinnati Bengals last season, racking up 126 total yards and a touchdown. Injuries and the emergence of Eddie Lacy prevented him from sticking in the lineup, and he did not see significant playing time before suffering his season-ending neck injury on the opening kickoff of Week 12.
