Green Bay Packers News: Casey Hayward and Derek Sherrod practice for the first time this year

Good news for Packers fans - while the team is still dealing with a number of injuries, they could have CB Casey Hayward and T Derek Sherrod back on the field in the very near future.

Hayward and Sherrod both practiced today for the first time all season, and this was Sherrod's first full practice since breaking his leg against Kansas City in week 15 of 2011. Sherrod was placed on the reserve/physically unable to perform list back in training camp - the second straight camp he missed following his leg injury.

Sherod, a 6'5, 321 lb tackle out of Mississippi State, was the Packers' first-round draft pick back in 2011. Tomorrow, he'll practice in full pads, and Mike McCarthy is excited about having him back on the field.

“It will be great to see that,” McCarthy said. “The individual work will be good for him. How we integrate him into the team work is something we’ve talked about.”

Per the rules governing the PUP list, Sherrod has three weeks where he can practice without being named to the 53-man roster, and he'll have to be added to the active roster by Week 10 to play this year.

Hayward was a limited participant in practice, and although he's still a few weeks away from returning to action, the signs are generally positive.

“I’m just trying to get back in the same rhythm I was.” said Hayward.
