The likely loss of Jordy Nelson for the season is a big one for the Green Bay Packers. Green Bay does have some options currently on the roster that can help fill the void. Randall Cobb signed a new contract in the offseason and Packers fan are likely very happy he didn't leave. He should be the new No. 1 WR. Davante Adams will now be the No. 2 and he should have a big season. The third wide out position could go to Jeff Janis, Jared Abbrederis or third round pick Ty Montgomery. However, all of those players are still young and Janis and Abbrederis weren't guaranteed roster spots before Nelson went down. The Packers might elect to replace Nelson in-house, but if they decide to sign someone, here are four wide receivers they could add.
4. Donnie Avery
A former second round pick, Avery has not lived up to expectations. His best season came playing with Andrew Luck in 2012, but he has never been worthy of the 33rd overall pick that was spent on him. If he were to sign with the Packers, he could be effective out of the slot.
3. Robert Meachem
Meachem is best as a deep threat and the Packers are now without their best one in Nelson. Another underachiever, Meachem is almost out of time in the NFL. If he were to sign, the Packers wouldn't need him to be much more than vertical threat.
2. Reggie Wayne
Wayne said he wants to play one more season with a contender and the Packers fit that bill. Green Bay could limit his snaps and he'd be a great veteran presence for a young group of wide outs.
1. Wes Welker
Welker wants another shot to keep playing and he'd be an interesting fit on the Packers. He'd be the smallest receiver by far, and he'd give Aaron Rodgers a type of slot receiver that he hasn't had before. Cobb is the only WR under 5-10 on the roster and he and Welker have very different styles. If Welker can stay healthy, he'd add a different dynamic to the Packers.
