The Zags got their first point by winning two of the three doubles matches. In the No. 1 doubles match, senior Hayden Smith and freshmen Jordan Smith closed out a 6-4 win. At No. 3 doubles, senior Vicente Varas and junior Ronzai Saurombe were able to take down their foe by a similar 6-4 margin.
While Varas and Saurombe had to battle hard to get this win, they had the right approach and mentality going into the match.
“I was satisfied with their ability to stick to the game plan,” head coach Peter MacDonald said. “They continued to stay consistent on serve and did a great job of staying within themselves for the entire set.
