GREEN BAY — Jeff Janis left the Green Bay Packers for the Cleveland Browns on Friday, joining a team where two of the top executives under general manager John Dorsey — assistant general manager Eliot Wolf and vice president of player personnel Alonzo Highsmith — were on the Packers’ staff when Green Bay picked Janis in the seventh round of the 2014 NFL draft.
The Browns also acquired ex-Packers cornerback Damarious Randall, Green Bay’s 2015 first-round pick, in a trade with the Packers earlier this month. Cleveland sent quarterback DeShone Kizer to Green Bay.
After having what seemed to be a breakthrough performance at wide receiver during a 2015 NFC Divisional playoff loss to Arizona, when he caught seven passes for 145 yards and two touchdowns — including a game-tying Hail Mary from Aaron Rodgers to force overtime — Janis was an afterthought on offense last season.
