Why the Kansas City Chiefs would trade Marcus Peters

The cases against trading Marcus Peters were strong. But the temptation to do so appears to have outweighed the potential risks.

In agreeing to deal Peters to the Los Angeles Rams, the Chiefs willingly gave up the best interceptor on the planet — Peters has 19 picks the past three seasons, and only one other NFL defender over that period has more than 12.

They also thinned a position that is now at Balsa-level plies. After Darrelle Revis was shown the door, they also have four more corners pending as free agents: Terrance Mitchell, Kenny Acker, Phillip Gaines and Steven Terrell.
