West Virginia stuns No. 3 Gonzaga in OT to open Battle 4 Atlantis

Senior Javon Small poured in 31 points for West Virginia as the Mountaineers upset No. 3 Gonzaga in overtime 86-78, the first game for both teams in the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament.

After two free throws from Ryan Nembhard gave GU a 71-66 lead with 25 seconds to go in regulation, WVU’s Tucker DeVries buried a deep 3-pointer to cut the lead to two. After a GU timeout, DeVries then stripped Nolan Hickman of the ball at halfcourt and drew a foul with 5.9 seconds left.

“I should have called a timeout as that thing was progressing, it didn’t look great on the press break,” said GU coach Mark Few after the game.
