Trystan Vrieling was named West Coast Conference (WCC) Pitcher of the Week after not allowing an earned run during his two starts last week, the conference announced on Monday.
The sophomore right-hander had a career-high 13 strikeouts across five innings during Gonzaga University’s (11-4) 2-1 win over Oklahoma State University on March 7. He then struck out nine batters and pitched a career-high eight innings during his team’s 1-0 loss to Long Beach State on Sunday.
Vrieling also gave up only five hits while walking four batters across his 13 innings of work. The zero walks he allowed on Sunday was an improvement as he leads the team with 11 walks this season.
