UR notes: Spiders next to deal with GMU's 'Mr. SportsCenter,' buzzer-beating Ian Boyd

Ian Boyd, GMU's buzzer-beater, had FBS options

There are a few A-10 teams wishing Ian Boyd had chosen football over basketball as his college sport.

Boyd, a 6-foot-4, 215-pound sophomore guard at George Mason, was recruiting by Virginia Tech as a linebacker, by Georgia Tech as a receiver, and by Old Dominion and East Carolina as either.

Boyd, a resident of Apex, N.C., also was a high-school basketball star and ended up committing to GMU because he preferred the school over others that recruited him. Football was not an option at Mason.
