An obituary apparently written by Tom Benson’s estranged family and shared at a memorial Mass in San Antonio shows a different side of the late New Orleans Saints and Pelicans owner.
“He could be harsh when he felt crossed or betrayed,” the obituary, published Sunday in the San Antonio Express-News, reads. “Now he knows the truth, how very much we truly loved him!”
The obituary emphasizes Benson as a father and grandfather, while mentioning more in passing what he was well-known for in New Orleans: purchasing the Saints and Pelicans franchises and building a billion-dollar championship sports empire.
