Former New Orleans Saints safety Steve Gleason said late Monday night that he has spent the past few days at Ochsner Medical Center as a precaution.
"...not where I planned to spend my birthday, but I'll be home soon," Gleason said via Twitter.
Gleason turned 41 on Monday.
The former football star, who's well-known for his iconic blocked punt against the Atlanta Falcons in the Saints' first game back in the Superdome after Hurricane Katrina in September 2006, was diagnosed with ALS, or Lou Gehrig's Disease, in January 2011.
He has since waged a public war against ALS, creating the Team Gleason Foundation as part of "his mission to show that patients can not only live but thrive after this diagnosis" and being the subject of a highly acclaimed documentary, "Gleason.
