The final chapter of Spokane Velocity FC’s historic inaugural season will unfold Sunday at Werner Park in Papillion, Nebraska, where the No. 7 seed club takes on top-seeded Union Omaha in the USL League One Final at noon PST.
Velocity is the first expansion club to reach the championship, a feat head coach Leigh Veidman attributes to the collective effort from the club and the city it represents.
“Nobody expected this in year one,” Veidman said during Wednesday’s media availability event on Gonzaga University’s campus. “But when you’ve got a group of hardworking people behind the scenes trying to build something like this, a great locker room of amazing people, excellent football players who work hard and apply themselves every day and then you’ve got the City of Spokane who showed up for us all year — if there’s a magic recipe, that is it.
