Sean McDonough is out as the play-by-play analyst on ESPN's flagship NFL broadcast, "Monday Night Football," after only two seasons.
Richard Deitsch of SI reports Friday evening on Twitter that McDonough will leave MNF to return to calling college football games for the network. Of course, McDonough's partner in 2017, Jon Gruden, has already traded in his microphone for a headset to return as head coach of the Oakland Raiders.
That means MNF will have a brand-new booth this upcoming season. McDonough replaced Mike Tirico, who'd held the post since 2006, in 2016.
ESPN reportedly is putting the full-court press on Peyton Manning to be the color analyst with a compensation package that could reach $10 million annually.
