Report: Falcons, OT Jake Matthews agree on 2-year, $45 million contract extension

The Atlanta Falcons have agreed to terms on a two-year contract extension with left tackle Jake Matthews for $45 million, the NFL Network reported on Sunday night. The deal includes a guarantee of $38 million for the 2025 and 2026 seasons. Matthews, 33, had two years remaining on his contract, which will extend now through the 2028 season followed by possibly free agency in 2029. Matthews, who had a three-year contract extension in 2022, has been exceptionally durable for the Falcons, who selected him with the sixth overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft out of Texas A&M. He has started all 179 regular-season games and five postseason games that he has played, including all 17 games last season.
