New York Jets select USC QB Sam Darnold No. 3 overall in NFL draft

The Jets took an immense risk in moving up three spots last month in a draft with two QB-needy teams still in front of them. Their risk was rewarded Thursday night, when USC QB Sam Darnold became Gang Green's new franchise passer.

Darnold is only 20 and was considered the No. 1 quarterback in the draft by many. He has the highest ceiling of any of the passers and the right stuff intangible-wise to survive the New York market.

The Jets owe a big thank you to their cross-town rival Giants, who opted to bolster the other part of the backfield with Saquon Barkley and allow Darnold to fall into Mike Maccagnan's lap.
