Northern Arizona kept the 11-on-11 portion of its spring game short, with nearly half of the offense’s yardage coming on the opening play.
Case Cookus hit Emmanuel Butler for a 70-yard touchdown, with about 30 yards coming after the catch, after the senior receiver beat Northern Arizona’s defense up the middle of the field. The first of just 29 plays, split across three groups on both sides of the ball, easily stood out as the play of the afternoon.
Throwing just four other passes, Cookus finished 3-for-5 passing with 97 yards and two touchdowns. Butler caught just one other ball, a two-yard gain before being touched down by the defense.
