With both freshman Jordan Smith and junior Ronzai Saurombe on the bench due to illness and injury, the Zags were forced into unfamiliar territory.
On the first court, senior Hayden Smith had to battle against sophomore Nathan Boniel of PSU, but failed to come through in a 7-6, 2-6, 2-6 loss in No.1 singles. For No.3 singles, senior Vicente Varas fell just short in a grueling 5-7, 6-1, 3-6 defeat to PSU junior Ethan Lopez. Even though the two seniors could not post wins for their team, there were numerous opportunities left on the table.
“With as many close matches as the team played, we know that this one could’ve easily gone the opposite way for us,”freshman Ruadhan O’Sullivan said.
